Distribution: Tropics and subtropics, mostly neotropical, secondary centers in Madagascar (69) and New Caledonia, several in Africa, but few in tropical Asia. Calyrorectes is often kept separate. Some remaining taxa of tropical Asia probably will have to be recombined in Syzygium.
