Distribution: China (over 50 spp.), trop. Asia, 1 sp. South Africa, 1 Madagascar, many New Guinea. The genus is taken here in a broad sense fide PPG-I and -II, including Crypsinus, Arthromeris, Paraselliguea, Pichisermollodes, Polypodiopteris and Phymatopteris. Fraser-Jenkins et al. (2018) argue strongly to keep at least Arthromeris and Pichisermollodes separate.
