386.3416 Genus Chenopodium L.; Sp. Pl. [Linnaeus] 1: 218 (1753) s. str.
Distribution: cosmopolitan, temperate to subtropical, many worldwide as weeds. This group contains the core Chenopodium (album agg.). The taxonomy was highly confused because there are countless morphologically distinct polyploids which were described often as separate species or hybrids. New genetic work (mostly by Mandák et al.) has revealed that there are eight basal genetic complexes (AA through HH) which are combined into secondary polyploids.
