Distribution: Cosmopolitan (> 500 South America - especially Chile and Argentina, 150 Africa, over 100 in Australia). Some parts of the genus have been split off, others will likely follow. On the other hand, major parts of Culcitium and Erechtites have been re-integrated in Senecio.
