; Prodr. Fl. Nov. Holland. 158 (1810)
Distribution: North-temperate holarctic, few China and Taiwan (subgen. Eriosorus). There are significant delimitation problems in Siberia. It has been proposed to split the genus in two (Woodsia and Physematium) with a hybrid genus Woodsimatium between them, but PPG-II is not following this split.
