Distribution: E- and tropical Asia, few to Pacific and Australia, 2 Indian Ocean. Inclusion of Archangiopteris following Murdock (2005-2008). India has only 3(-4) species fide Fraser-Jenkins et al. 2017, China a maximum of 28 (Flora of China), but this is probably too many. Rolleri (2003) recognizes only 10 species in Angiopteris s. str.
