Distribution: Northern temperate zone (over 150 spp. in China and Taiwan), tropical mountains, only 22 New World. Inclusion of all the satellite genera like Acrorumohra, Adenoderris, Peranema, Diacalpe, Dryopsis, Nothoperanema etc. fide Zhang (2012) and others, based on molecular results. Fraser-Jenkins et al. (2018) argue for keeping some genera distinct, like Dryopsis, Stenolepia and Nothoperanema.
