Distribution: Tropical and warm-temp. regions, mostly tropical America (> 400); tropical Africa (ca. 160), tropical Asia (> 150), few Middle and temperate East Asia. Wood & Scotland (2019) combine all Ipomoeeae into one very large genus, which is not yet accepted by many authors, but convincingly supported by Munoz-Rodriguez et al. (2023).
